The white flag has finally been tossed.
I've had close to two months of persistent pain & seizing in my lower back. (When pushing off the wall from a flip turn causes my back to seize....something might be wrong.)
And...
It took me a full 15 minutes to get out of bed on Tuesday of last week. ...the realization that I might succumb to bladder failure finally got me up and SLOWLY moving. (Note to self: Invest in a cane. Keep cane next to bed.)
So....
I finally hauled my aging beat up ass to the body shop.
Holy moly! I do relish a good chiro...
Tuesday was my first session.... (He came at the recommendation of Surf in Oregon and works primarily with athletes.)
Complete body adjustments. (He did my toes! ...I'm in Heaven.)
Deep tissue massage on right glute. (ow...)
Skin rolling/folding on left Psoas muscle/abs. (um....OW)
Felt so good afterward.....I went straight to swim practice.
And....made it through a yoga class on Wednesday WITHOUT ANY PAIN!

Second session today (thursday)....
Complete body adjustments. (Did I mention....toe heaven?)
Skin rolling/folding on left psoas muscle/abs. (Holy shit! ....I now know what it feels like to have the fascia & skin ripped from your body. I thought I was going to pass out! Direct quote from the Doc..."I'm going to take advantage of your high tolerance for pain..." Eleven hours later....and I still have finger prints/marks on my stomach & hip.)
Electric stem on left & right glutes & lower back. (Oooh yeah! I love the highest setting....giggle fest. ...Doc B. now thinks I'm strange.)
Four more sessions to go.... should be fun.

You poor old thing ....... and stop giggling!
electric stem? is that like a TENS machine?
Not a TENS machine, nursie. Technically....I believe it's ultrasound therapy. The doc attaches an electrode to my lower hamstring then uses an ultrasound wand to stimulate & massage the affected area. Sends electrical pulses through the muscles. When turned at a higher setting, it has a tendancy to cause uncontrolled contractions in the muscles. (which then causes uncontrolled giggling...in me)
now next time, don't wait till you're ready for a wheelchair!
and aren't those ultrasound machines fun???!
Girl, you are falling apart. But what's so interesting is that females, especially female athletes, rarely recognize this (again that high threshhold for pain thing). I had a raging sinus infection a few months ago. I suffered through it—and I do mean suffered—because I told myself it was a cold. But when you're the mom, you tend to ignore your own ailments, refusing to give in to the problem. I'm glad you finally went to the body shop. Now go kick as at Masters!
amazing what some doctors can do...
You're going to Masters? Dragging that "old body...." into the fray are you? News to me! ;-)
I'm thinking I need a tuneup...haven't been right since digging out 3 tree stumps a couple weeks back...I knew I was in for it when Dr. B walked in covered with bruises on his arms from a karate comp...didn't feel like complaining
Psoas. So small, so deep (inside the fricken pelvis for cryin out loud), so important to hip stability that imbalance can wreck your life. It's been a while since I last had a massage where the therapist was brave enough to do psoas release. I need it now and know how getting that bugger to relax can improve one's outlook on life. Congrats on finding a practitioner you like.
